A little bit of rain

A little bit of rain shouldn't stop you from going out and shooting. If you live in the PacNW and shoot, you should be prepared for this.  After a semi un-eventful day and reading a quote from a Magnum photographer, I decided to venture out into the rain.  Below is an encapsulation of the evening's haps. Oh and check out VII Photo for sure!

Thanksgiving in Repose

Lots of turkey, family and friends, that's how thanksgiving was for me yesterday.   I took a few pictures to document that occasion for future reflection. Oh and I did find a few good deals today $2 DVDs! and decent ones at that.  -Jefferson

Be Always Ready

Did you guys hear about the guy who set himself on fire in UW's Red Square recently? I thought about that scene for at least two days just imagining looking over and seeing a human go up in flames. I immediately thought of the famous photo by Malcolm Browne of a Buddhist monk who set himself on fire in Saigon during Vietnam.

My girlfriend, doesn't always like the fact that I take my camera EVERYWHERE. I told her about this and said, "Babe, this is the reason I take it with me everywhere." I'm really surprised that in this digital age with cameras everywhere, nobody caught that on "film."

Just a few weeks ago I was working(I am a delivery driver out on whidbey island) and I came around a bend to see a Navy chopper flying low with a line hanging down from the chopper. I pulled my truck over and within seconds I had my camera out capturing the scene. A couple minutes later the chopper ascended and revealed two guys dangling strapped at the bottom of the line. The helicopter flew away and I had some neat "spot" news.

From what I know it was a training excersise they were doing at Lake Hancock(an old lake they used for target practice). So as much as it may annoy some people or be an inconvenience to me to haul it everywhere It's just part of the curse.

Life is full of firsts

"How dull it is to pause, not to shine, to rust unburnished."  These words(an excerpt from Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson)I find to be central to my life.

I find my self constantly seeking that next thrill, whether it be from the rush of covering an event with a million things happening around me or maybe I just avoided driving my car off the road and I feel the rush of being alive suddenly enter back into my being.

I try to live my life, well, the life I have been blessed with, in a fatalistic manner.   One needs to come to grips with random violence and the unexpectancy of this life. The more you cherish each moment, each hour, each day, the more you'll appreciate each week, each year, that you have been given.

JOY- This guy was so happy to be finishing the Vancouver Sun Run and it showed.

Grief- After a candlelight vigil for the six victims of the Alger shootings, a man sits and talks with God.

Gratefulness- A 92 year old WWII vet remembers his life and the sacrifice of others.

Find somebody and make them happy today.
